Go the Distance with Breakfast
Just like a car needs gas to run, your body needs fuel for energy. The word breakfast breaks down as “breaking the fast.” There is no better way to get energy to start your day than with a healthy breakfast. Choosing a balance of dairy, whole grains, and fruit will give your body the vitamins and minerals it needs to get you on track for the day ahead.
Many of us get stuck on the same daily routine, the same food choices, and the same excuses as to why we don’t eat breakfast. By not starting your day with right mix of foods, your body will struggle with trying to make up for the missing nutrients the rest of the day. You may also over eat in portions or consume excess foods at your next meal.
Breakfast is key to your daily routine and in our busy schedules we owe it to our health to make it a priority. There are three simple tips for including breakfast: first, make sure to plan ahead. By planning your meals in advance, or at least the night before, items that take more time to prepare can be prepped or made in advance. Second, keep your meals simple. You don’t have to be a 5 star chef to have a delicious and healthy meal. Mix up your meals with recipes that take longer to prepare with a few simple foods that can be put together in a few minutes to create a balanced meal. An example would be whole grain cereal with milk topped with your favorite fruit. Lastly, if your schedule does not allow breakfast at home, take it on the go. Cooking ahead and freezing pre-portion items (or prepping items in resealable bags or containers) can allow you to still win with breakfast.
This week is National Breakfast Week. We invite you to celebrate with us by mixing up your breakfast routine with one of these healthy breakfast recipes:
